We think that Gulf Shores’ restaurants offer some of the best and freshest food in the world. We realize that everyone has different tastes in food. There are so many choices in the area for good food, that we thought it might be helpful to share some of our favorites with you. Please take into consideration that owners and chefs change from year to year, and with these changes, come a change in the food and atmosphere.

You might what to consider dining out at mid-day; some restaurants offer a cheaper lunch menu without the wait. This will also provide an activity during the heat of the day and allow for extra beach time at sunset. Call ahead to inquire. We think it is fun to cook in the condo – but, after all, you are on vacation, so why not enjoy letting someone else do the shopping and clean up the mess!

If you have never eaten Royal Red shrimp, you must try them while you are here – it is a local favorite. Bon Appetite!

Café Beignet - Located in the Winn Dixie Shoping Center in Orange Beach. Our friends rave about Café Beignet…remember, we hit the beach early, so we usually eat a bowl of cereal with fresh fruit; however, the beignets taste just like the ones from the French Quarter. So, if you are craving the taste of New Orleans, you might try this for breakfast.

Hazels Nook (251.968.7065) - Hazels opened in 1957. It is a favorite for many because it offers buffets at breakfast and lunch. Offering a wide selection of fresh fried seafoods and vegtables.

Lunch and Dinner

The Gift Horse (334.943.3663 - 209 West Laurel Avenue, Foley)
It is well worth the drive to downtown Foley. The food is delicious and well presented. The atmosphere is nice too.

Hazels Family Seafood Restaurant (251.981.4628) - Located in Orange Beach, it is a spin-off of Hazel's Nook in Gulf Shores, with similar items on the buffet. Many of the items on the buffet are fried, so if you are searching for dinner on the “lite” side, you might want to consider other options.

King Neptunes (251.968.5464) - An authenic LA (lower Alabama) dive! Great selection of fresh seafood where the locals dine. Check out their fabulous lunch specials.

DeSoto's Seafood Kitchen (251.948.7294) - Located across from the beach in Gulf Shores - Always a crowd pleaser!

Kitty's Cafe  (251.948.5233) - Delicious food, reasonably priced with a variety of foods on the menu.  Located in the Target shopping center.

Casual Dining

Sea-N-Suds (251.948.7894) - Shoes and shirts are required, but flip- flops and a cover-up will do. Be sure to order a cup of their famous gumbo…it’s not a trip to Gulf Shores without it!

Tacky Jacks - several locations to choose from , with the newest on Canal Road in the curve.  Great for outdoor dining.

Lulu's Sunset Grill (251.967.LULU) - Rumor has it that Lucy Buffet and her brother, Jimmy Buffet, are owners of Lulu’s. Located under the Intercoastal Waterway Bridge, it is a great stop for lunch if you are on your way to the Riviera Center. Lula’s has an outdoor playground- a great thing for small children.

The Shrimp Basket (251.948.7687) - We have heard that all of their seafood comes from local distributors, no wonder that their food is great. If you are in the mood for fried food, this is one place to go. Try a shrimp po-boy, you will be glad that you did. There are other locations on Perdido Key and in Foley.

The Gulf Shores Steamer (251.948.6344) - This restaurant was voted among the top 20 seafood restaurants in the U.S., according to Costal Living. We know why. It is definitely one of our favorite places to eat. All food is steamed…and delicious. Warning: the shrimp is served with the heads attached. This is one of the few local restaurants serving Royal Reds.

Our Favorite Dining

Original Oyster House (251.948.2445) - This family-friendly eatery, located in Bayou Village on Gulf Shores Parkway (Highway 59), offers fresh and delicious seafood at a reasonable price. It is a popular place for both summer crowds as well as snow birds. This place is great!!!

Cosmos (251.948.9663) - It is located at 25753 Canal Road in Orange Beach.  Great food and atmosphere, and well suited for the entire family.

Cobalt  (251.923.5300) - Upscale waterfront dining just over (under) the pass on Perdido Beach Boulevard in Orange Beach.  Fabulous chef with a great bakery also.
